Hints for Good Co-Parenting Communication
HINTS FOR GOOD CO-PARENTING COMMUNICATION
Think ahead of time about what you want to accomplish with the conversation, and work to keep the conversation focused.
Make short statements about what you want and why; don’t lecture or accuse.
Make “I” statements rather than “you” statements.
YES: “I’m worried about Suzy’s schoolwork, it seems to be slipping . . .”
NO: “Your not paying attention to Suzy’s homework; You should change your ways.”
State specifically what you want. Provide alternatives, and work toward compromises wherever possible.
Wait for and listen to the response.
Remember your most precious possessions – your children.
